Whereby it is agreed by and between the parties hereto

as follows:-

1. The said Graves William Eves (hereinafter called the person engaged) is hereby selected for appointment as Resident Engineer in connection with the construction of the Kowloon- -Canton Railway upon the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.

2. The person engaged undertakes to proceed to Hongkong when directed by the Consulting Engineers and to perform the duties of Resident Engineer for such period as may be necessary for the completion of the Railway.

3. The duties of the person engaged shall include all work connected with the construction of the Railway as well as any any other suitable duties which the Government through the Consulting Engineers may call upon him to perform and he shall at all times act under the instructions and general directions of the Consulting Engineers for the Railway.

4.

The person engaged shall on arrival in Hongkong and during the time he shall continue in the service of the Govern- -ment reside in such place and occupy himself in such manner as the Government through the Consulting Engineers shall direct and he shall not either directly or indirectly engage or be concerns -ed in any other service or business whatsoever or receive commissions or profits of any kind but shall devote the whole
